Chief Dental Officer and Chief Infection Control Officer

Dr. Clifford Hames brings to HRHCare a background of dental practice experience from both private practice and community health center dentistry. In addition to his patients at Peekskill, Dr. Hames is the supervising dentist for both the Peekskill and Dover Plains school-based health centers. He provides dental exams for each program, evaluating participating students to receive dental sealants and preventive dentistry by the team of a dental hygienist and dental assistant in a school setting. Dr. Hames has been a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, 9th District Dental Association, and is also is an active member of CHCANYS and the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA). From 1994-2013, Dr. Hames also served as a founding member, past President, Treasurer, and webmaster of Dental Management Coalition (DMC), formerly known as Region II USPHS Dental Directors Network. During his tenure, Dr. Hames worked with the DMC Board of Directors and fellow DMC officers on organizing several continuing education conferences for dental professionals choosing health center dentistry as their careers. Dr. Hames participated in one of the first Institute for Healthcare Improvement collaboratives that focused on improving appointment scheduling and broken appointment rates. Under his leadership, the HRHCare dental department was also one of the first HRHCare departments to offer HIV testing to patients using oral fluid exudates to yield prompt results as a routine part of dental visits. Dr. Hames graduated from the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery (SDOS), in 1984. He received his BA degree in Mathematical Science from Binghamton University (SUNY) in 1979. Dr. Hames received the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholarship while attending Columbia University. During his senior year of dental school, he completed an externship at a health center in East Harlem where his public service experience left a lasting impression that would influence his career path for many years to come.
