Eastern Dutchess Operations Manager to Receive February 2016 Planetree Spirit Award

Phyllis RoosaAmenia, NY – HRHCare Community Health, a nonprofit system of Federally Qualified Health Centers offering a range of medical services for underserved communities throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island, is pleased to announce that Phyllis Roosa, Operations Manager for the HRHCare Health Centers at Amenia, Dover Plains and Pine Plains, will be presented with the February 2016 Planetree Spirit Award for excellence in patient care. The HRHCare Planetree Institute presents these awards to employees who go above and beyond to make health care more personalized and create a warm and welcoming environment for all.
A graduate of Becker College with prior work experience in the private sector, Phyllis Roosa has been a part of the HRHCare family in northeastern Dutchess County for 19 years. While consistently approaching her work with joy and compassion throughout her career, she has recently served as an inspiration to fellow staff by embracing the philosophy of the book ‘The Happiness Advantage’ by Shawn Achor. After members of the HRHCare Operations team encouraged staff to read and apply the principles of positive psychology that fuel success at work presented in this book, Phyllis took it to heart and began her own methods of reinforcing positivity at HRHCare. Every day she posts a positive quote on the white board in her Health Center and has given a journal to each site she oversees to document positive thoughts and little reminders of gratefulness. She is always mindful to include a positive message at staff meetings and words of encouragement to help prepare her workforce to better serve HRHCare patients in an ever-changing health care environment.
Phyllis has also been a great champion of the My HRHCare Patient Portal as well as for providing increased access to care for the area’s farmworker population, growing up on a dairy farm herself. “The primary need that patients have is safety from their providers,” said Phyllis. “We need to provide patient centered care which includes our focus, compassion and timeliness of service. Nothing is greater than the sense of family, and that is so much experienced within HRHCare.”
“Phyllis has had a direct impact on contributing to a happier and more positive environment for our staff and patients,” said Sherry Wyckoff, HRHCare Regional Practice Manager. “The simple techniques that Phyllis has implemented are a great reflection of the Planetree Spirit.”
Planetree is the global leader in advancing patient-centered care solutions, integrating the technology of modern medicine with the healing dimensions of compassion, comfortable surroundings, shared knowledge and freedom to make educated choices. HRHCare has been an affiliate since 1996 and remains the only Federally Qualified Health Center to be a part of this alliance. The HRHCare Planetree Institute was established in 2012 and provides state-of-the-art training to prepare staff in delivering passionate and personalized care. The HRHCare Planetree Spirit Award honors employees who have been nominated by their colleagues for going above and beyond to provide individualized patient care and enhance health care services in their respective facility.
