HRHCare Elsie Owens Health Center at Coram Presented with Planetree Community Spirit Award

ceoHRHCare Community Health is pleased to announce that the HRHCare Elsie Owens Health Center at Coram has been presented with a Planetree Community Spirit Award. The HRHCare Planetree Institute presents these awards to a team, department or site that connects and impacts the local community in an exceptional way.

Staff at the Elsie Owens Health Center have truly gone above and beyond to create an incredible sense of community in line with the Planetree Spirit. They have tabled at and assisted in the coordination of several large health fairs as well as participating in a walk for breast cancer awareness in 2015. At another cancer walk for life earlier in 2016, Dr. Nadia Arif and the clinical team of the Elsie Owens Health Center received an award in recognition of their efforts to increase the number of colorectal screenings in Suffolk County. They have organized a monthly Community Day, bringing outside resources to the patients, such as a back to school event in August. Particularly of note, the staff consistently exhibit compassion and kindness to the many homeless and recent-immigrant patients who frequent the Health Center.

“The team at our Elsie Owens Health Center has demonstrated the Planetree Spirit in so many ways,” said Kathy Brieger, RD, HRHCare Chief of Patient Experience and Staff Development and Executive Director of the HRHCare Planetree Training Institute. “From participating in health days to starting a vibrant walking club for staff and patients, they are so involved in the community.”
