HRHCare Partners with Long Island Cares on Mobile Breakfast Food Truck Initiative

Trevor CrossLong Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank has developed a new and innovative program to reach out to children and provide them with a nutritious and ready-to-eat breakfast at times when schools are closed and other community resources may not be available.  The second-of-its-kind Mobile Breakfast Food Truck will travel throughout Suffolk County to reach some of the 70,000 children in need and provide them with cold cereals, low fat milk, fresh fruit and healthy snacks to combat domestic hunger and high food insecurity at the most critical time of their day. HRHCare has partnered with Long Island Cares to ensure that the Mobile Breakfast Food Truck will be on site at four HRHCare Health Center locations in Amityville, Brentwood, Riverhead and Shirley.

The truck was officially launched on May 25th with speeches from Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Paul Pachter, CEO of Long Island Cares, Legislator Leslie Kennedy, and Trevor Cross, HRHCare Suffolk County Community Liaison. Long Island Cares launched its first Mobile Breakfast Food Truck in August of 2015 that has already assisted 2,400 children in collaboration with dozens of its contract member agencies in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
