HRHCare Partners with The LOFT and Center Lane to Provide LGBT Community Services in Peekskill

LOFT Center LanePeekskill, NY – HRHCare (Hudson River HealthCare), a nonprofit, Federally Qualified Health Center offering a range of medical services for underserved communities throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island, has announced a partnership with The LOFT: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Services Center and Westchester Jewish Community Services’ Center Lane LGBTQ Youth Center to offer monthly support groups for LGBT youth, adults and seniors beginning April 8th. The HRHCare Health Center at Peekskill will host these monthly group meetings facilitated by The LOFT and Center Lane in their second floor Founders Room, giving HRHCare patients and other community members who are identified or allied with the LGBT community a chance to discuss important LGBT health issues as well as support each other through group discussion and sharing.

“The LOFT has been working with HRHCare for many years on issues surrounding the MSM community,” said Scott Havelka, Director of Programs and Services at The LOFT. “This new collaboration in Peekskill will broaden the services to the entire LGBT community and demonstrate the many possibilities when LGBT service providers partner with health care providers.”

Santo Barbagiovanni, LMSW, Program Director of Center Lane, added, “WJCS Center Lane is thrilled to work with The LOFT and HRHCare to continue the expansion of Center Lane’s services to Northern Westchester, allowing more LGBTQ youth to access the continuum of services and programs.”

On April 8th, Center Lane will begin facilitating a monthly group for LGBT youth aged 13 to 21 from 5:00 until 6:30 PM, followed by The LOFT group for LGBT adults aged 18 and up from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. These monthly meetings will continue to be held on the second Wednesday of every month. Beginning May 6th, The LOFT will also offer their Silver Connections group for LGBT seniors, aged 55 and up, on the first Wednesday of every month at 11:30 AM. All group meetings will take place in the Founders Room on the second floor of the HRHCare Health Center at Peekskill, 1037 Main Street.

About WJCS Center Lane

WJCS Center Lane is Westchester’s only community center for LGBTQ youth and is designed to reduce the isolation that many of these young people experience by providing workshops, counseling, support groups and social events that enhance self-esteem and personal growth in a safe place. Center Lane also has been involved in the establishment of Gay/Straight Alliances at several schools in Westchester, provides support, education and information for parents and friends of LGBTQ youth as well as community education, fostering greater acceptance and understanding.
