Tarrytown, NY – Hudson River Health Care (HRHCare), one of largest federally qualified health center networks in the country, hosted its 14th annual Cornucopia Benefit on Saturday, October 20. Held at The Hudson Loft in Irvington, NY, the event raised $350,000 to support the comprehensive primary and preventive health services that HRHCare provides to people in need throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island. HRHCare currently serves over 185,000 New Yorkers, providing care they would otherwise be unable to access.
Guests also had the opportunity to contribute to HRHCare’s Children’s Health Fund. This fund supports access to pediatric primary, preventive, and dental care for children across the organization’s 11-county service area.
“We are thrilled with the success of the 14th annual Cornucopia Benefit,” said Anne Kauffman Nolon, MPH, CEO and President of HRHCare. “The funds we raised will bring much needed primary and preventive health care to underserved populations in our communities and ensure that everyone has access to our high-quality services.”
This year, HRHCare honored Daniel Hawkins, Jr., Senior VP for Public Policy and Research at the National Association of Community Health Centers and Sara Rosenbaum, JD, Founding Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Professor of Health Law and Policy at George Washington University.
“Visiting health centers, I knew that this was a model of care that would work and be needed for millions of people,” said Daniel Hawkins, Jr. “HRHCare, and Anne herself, are among the most stellar, outstanding leaders in the health center community across the country,”
“What better name is there for a program than community health centers?” said Sarah Rosenbaum. “The most important issue in US health policy, whether it’s children or adults, is to make health care access more equitable.”
Shahram Razman, MD, Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, where HRHCare operates a health center, was honored for his partnership and the care he’s provided to the Yonkers community.
“OB/GYN is not a job, it’s a call to service” said Dr. Razman. “I’ve delivered over 13,000 babies and provided care to thousands more. When Hudson River Health Care came to St John’s Riverside, they became a great partner – providing care to everyone in their community.”
As a celebration of harvest and health, HRHCare also honored Liz Taggart, owner of Amba Farms, for her contributions to providing organic, sustainable food to Hudson Valley communities. In reference to the Children’s Health Fund, Ms. Taggart said, “Solid nutrition is so important for a child, from within the mother’s womb through all their developmental years. We all need that organic nutrition every day, every meal.”
