National Suicide Prevention Month

September is National Suicide Prevention Month – a time when behavioral / mental health organizations and individuals across the United States and around the world promote suicide prevention awareness.

Research shows that people who are having thoughts of suicide feel relief when someone asks after them in a caring way. Findings also suggest that acknowledging and talking about thoughts of suicide may reduce rather than increase the suicide rate.

One of the great tools for suicide prevention awareness is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s #BeThe1To campaign, which helps spread the word about steps we can all take to prevent suicide. The Lifeline network and its partners are working to change the conversation to focus on actions that can promote healing, help, and hope.
