Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing Joins Forces with Barbara Shinn and David Page of Shinn Estates & Farmhouse and Jonathan Russo to Raise Funds to Provide Access to Health Care for Farm Workers and Their Families

Benefit Will Support HRHCare’s Agricultural Health Fund, Helping to Address Issues Including Poor Nutrition, Asthma, Musculoskeletal Conditions, Lack of Preventive Care, and Absence of General Dental and Medical Services

Riverhead, NY – Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing, Barbara Shinn and David Page of Shinn Estates & Farmhouse, and Jonathan Russo will host a fundraiser in support of Long Island agricultural workers on Thursday, July 16th, at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead. The event will support the HRHCare Foundation and the Agricultural Health Fund with a goal of raising $100,000 to provide quality health care services for Long Island’s agricultural workers and their families, many of whom work to ensure the success of Long Island’s iconic wine industry.

“Farmworkers and their families often have no voice and nowhere to turn when it comes to their health care,” said Anne Kauffman Nolon, MPH, President and CEO of HRHCare. “We are very excited to partner with Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing, Shinn Estates & Farmhouse and Jonathan Russo to raise awareness and funds to ensure that HRHCare is able to continue to offer these vital medical and dental services to those who have already given us so much.”

“Agricultural workers are the backbone of Long Island’s economy, but their contributions are all too often overlooked,” said Jonathan Russo. “These funds will provide needed medical and dental services to the people who quite literally put food on our plates and drinks in our glasses. We look forward to a strong turnout and a very exciting event.”

Despite their outsize impact on Long Island’s economy, farmworkers and their families often struggle to gain access to quality healthcare. Many of these families suffer from poor nutrition, asthma, musculoskeletal conditions, and a lack of preventive care. All the proceeds from this event will go to a “Day of Health” for agricultural workers and their families, during which HRHCare will perform a health assessment and connect these Long Islanders to vital healthcare services.

“As a local business owner, I see firsthand how important agricultural workers are to the North Fork and all of Long Island,” added Barbara Shinn of Shinn Estate Vineyards and Farmhouse. “I want to encourage everyone to come enjoy this great event with us, and thank Jonathan Russo and Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing for their partnership in putting it together.”
