HRHCare Northern Region Health Centers Presented with Planetree Community Spirit Award

HRHCare Community Health is pleased to announce that a team from the HRHCare Northern Region health centers – Amenia, Dover Plains, Pine Plains, and Hudson – will be presented with a Planetree Community Spirit Award. The HRHCare Planetree Institute presents these awards to a team, department, or site that impacts the local community in an exceptional way.

A team from the HRHCare health centers in Amenia, Dover Plains, Pine Plains, and Hudson recently participated in the Eat Smart New York’s “Nourish Your Neighbor” healthy food drive in a very unique way. The “Nourish Your Neighbor” drive seeks to receive food donations that fall in line with the “My Plate” nutrition tool which teaches how to have a balanced and healthy diet. As it can sometimes be hard for individuals to acquire some of these healthy foods from a local food pantry, HRHCare staff decided to cook up a plan themselves. With the support of multiple community volunteers, the HRHCare Northern Region sites hosted four free community dinners with a “Pay It Forward” theme – exchanging a freshly cooked hot meal for healthy food donations from diners.

Overall, around 200 diners were served at the Amenia and Pine Plains fire houses, the Copake community center, and the Dover Plains elementary school. Among those served were a patient with acute kidney failure who needed specialized nutrition counseling, recently unemployed individuals trying to support a family, and others simply in need of a hot, healthy meal. Another series of dinners is planned for this winter.
