WIC Program – Women, Infants, Children

Hudson River Healthcare WIC program provides supplemental foods, nutrition education and health care referrals to low income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five.

The following benefits are provided to WIC participants:

• Supplemental nutritious foods each month
• Nutrition education and counseling at WIC clinics
• Breastfeeding support and education
• Referrals to community and health care programs

Who is eligible for WIC?

• Pregnant women
• Breastfeeding women (up to 1 year postpartum)
• Postpartum women (up to 6 months postpartum)
• Infants
• Children (under the age of 5)

WIC provides vouchers each month which are taken to the grocery stores and used to buy nutritious foods. Examples of foods provided by WIC are:

• Milk
• Cheese
• Eggs
• Peanut butter
• Beans
• Fruits and Vegetables

Fit WIC

Goal is to promote physical activity and healthier lifestyles.

“Play Dates”- Program for WIC participants to play games, eat healthy snacks and have story time.

“Walkway over the Hudson”- Walking program for the entire family in the City of Poughkeepsie. Healthy snacks and water are provided.

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program

Participants receive encouragement and guidance in breastfeeding through the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program. WIC participants learn why breastfeeding is the best start for their baby, how to breastfeed while still working, dads role in supporting breastfeeding, how to pump and store breastmilk and much more!
