On March 19th, Officer Katie Hansen of the Warwick Police Department visited a meeting of the Young Outstanding Latina Organization, a social group for local teenage girls, at the Hudson River Health Care (HRHCare) Alamo Community Center to give a workshop on pursuing a career in the police force. Officer Hansen described various aspects of work as a police officer, and what it takes to prepare for a career in the police force. After demonstrating the positive impact police officers have in their community, Officer Hansen was invited back by the group to give further information sessions.

The Young Outstanding Latina Organization, or YOLOs for short, was founded seven years ago as a community group for Latina youth in the Goshen area. At their meetings each week, programs are held that focus on different career choices, cultivating healthy habits, and basic skills-based training. Women who are employed in different occupations visit the girls to talk about what is needed to a pursue a career in their specific field, and share general information about their jobs.
