Dr. Nadia Arif Honored as Leader in Cancer Care and Prevention by American Cancer Society

Nadia ArifCoram, NY – HRHCare Community Health is pleased to announce that HRHCare Family Physician Nadia Arif, MD, will be honored by the American Cancer Society as ‘A Leader in Cancer Care and Prevention’ at their Relay for Life of Longwood event in Middle Island, NY, on May 21st. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life events bring communities together to honor survivors, those we’ve lost, and those who are helping to fight back against cancer.

“I am so proud of the work that Nadia is doing,” said Sophia McIntyre, MD, HRHCare Chief of Clinical Quality and Physician Leadership Development. “It is wonderful that she is being acknowledged for her commitment and dedication to the patients of HRHCare.”

A Family Physician at the HRHCare Elsie Owens Health Center at Coram, Dr. Arif has gone to great lengths to educate the Coram community on the importance of colorectal cancer screenings. After HRHCare signed the American Cancer Society’s ’80 by 2018 pledge last year, she has been a strong advocate for this important initiative which seeks to raise the numbers of those receiving colorectal cancer screenings by 80% nationwide by the year 2018. She has also championed the FluFIT Program in Coram, which offers home tests for colorectal cancer screening to patients at the time of their annual flu shot.

Dr. Arif received her Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery from Allama Iqbal Medical College at the University of Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan, and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital, NY.
