HRHCare Celebrates Three Kings Day in Beacon, Poughkeepsie and Peekskill

3 Kings 4

Participants in last year’s HRHCare Three Kings Day Celebration

Peekskill, NY – HRHCare (Hudson River HealthCare), a nonprofit, federally qualified health care system offering a range of medical services for underserved communities throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island, will hold their annual Three Kings Day celebrations in Beacon, Poughkeepsie and Peekskill in early January, 2015. These free events, supported by funding from the New York State Council on the Arts Folk Arts Program, are open to all and include traditional celebratory practices from multiple Latin American and Caribbean countries. With a strong dedication to celebrating the cultural heritage of its diverse patient population, the Three Kings Day events are one way in which HRHCare fulfills its mission of providing access to health care information and services in a culturally competent manner.

Each year HRHCare celebrates this important holiday with interactive craft demonstrations, such as face-painting and piñata-making, along with food tastings, folk dancing and lively holiday music. Consulting folklorists and an interpretive program booklet will offer some ethnic and cultural context for the music, dance and the famous story of the Three Kings. The traditional ritual involving community members dressed as the Three Kings handing out aguinaldos, small gifts, to the children will conclude these fun-filled events.

This year’s line-up of performers includes music from Cesar Vele’s Inti-Andino Folkloric Group, Los Caribeños led by Edwin Rodriguez and Mariachi Viva Mexico. Drama and dance performances will also be given by Felip Santos’ Poughkeepsie Folkloric Group, Belle Ritter and Nivia Rodriguez. HRHCare and Hudson Health Plan staff will be on hand to provide health care and other community support services information.

The Beacon Three Kings Day celebration will be held from 1 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, January 4th, at St. Joachim School, 60 Liberty Street.

The Poughkeepsie celebration will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, January 10th, at the Partnership Family Center Auditorium, 29 North Hamilton Street.

The Peekskill celebration will be held from 2 PM to 5 PM on Saturday, January 10th, at Peekskill Middle School, 212 Ringgold Street.
