Amityville, NY – HRHCare, one of the largest federally qualified health center (FQHC) systems in the country with a 40-year history of providing high-quality health care to underserved populations, hosted a World AIDS Day Art Show at the HRHCare Maxine S, Postal Tri-Community Health Center at Amityville, NY on December 1st. The show displayed 27 works from local artists, including two HRHCare staff members. All the works depicted the struggle of the HIV/AIDs community and the obligation we all share to support them.

All of the CBOs serving the Long Island HIV community attended the event. HRHCare highlighted its efforts in the “End the Epidemic” campaign, including promoting viral suppression and PrEP. HRHCare also introduced its ‘Genesis’ program to the community.
Genesis is designed to help those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

“This event sent a clear message: HRHCare, like the rest of Long Island, is united in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” said Anne Kauffman Nolon, MPH, President and CEO of HRHCare. “We were thrilled to showcase the work of the Amityville community, and especially touched by the personal contributions from members of our own HRHCare family.”

“In order for us to end the HIV epidemic, we must bring together all of the stakeholders, said Maria Mezzatesta, Regional Coordinator of the HRHCare Genesis HIV Program in Suffolk County. “We were very pleased to have representation from all of the Long Island CBO’s serving the HIV community, our patients and concerned members of the general community. Ending the epidemic isn’t the job of one segment of the population, it is the responsibility of all of us.”

There are approximately 3,100 people living with HIV / AIDs in Suffolk County alone. HRHCare sees about 450 patients with HIV / AIDS at its facilities in the county.
