HRHCare Promotes Health Insurance Coverage during Final Days of Open Enrollment

imagesYOLQUNJ1Peekskill, NY – HRHCare (Hudson River HealthCare), a nonprofit, federally qualified health care system offering a range of medical services for underserved communities throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island, helps hundreds of people enroll in health coverage through the New York State of Health Marketplace each year. As open enrollment ends on February 15th, individuals must sign up by then for coverage starting on March 1st.

So many of those who come to HRHCare to purchase health insurance have little idea of how it all works – premiums, deductibles, co-shares, etc. Having someone walk you through the steps and helping you compare coverage plans can turn getting health insurance from an unattainable goal into a reality. We will see if you are eligible for lower cost coverage based on your income, help you compare coverage options to see what meets your needs and get you enrolled. Once enrolled, we will explain the automatic re-enrollment process as well, making it effortless for next year. To find your closest HRHCare Health Center and enroll before February 15th, call 1.844.HRH.CARE or send us an e-mail at gethealthinsurance@hrhcare.org.

Special Enrollment Period

HRHCare can also provide application assistance during special enrollment periods for commercial health plans and year round enrollment for Child Health Plus and Medicaid, the dedicated staff of HRHCare help people of all ages and backgrounds obtain health insurance for the first time; many of whom never thought it possible that they would qualify.

What People Are Saying

Amanda Gotsch, an AmeriCorps member at serving at HRHCare, brought tears to the eyes of a woman struggling to afford doctor’s visits and expensive medication for high blood pressure when she informed her of her eligibility for Medicaid. What started as a conversation fraught with anger and frustration, including complaints that her failed past attempts to obtain health insurance were causing her already high blood pressure to sky-rocket, ended with a hug and an immense amount of gratitude.

Another individual came to HRHCare to apply for Medicaid after several failed attempts elsewhere. While previously being told she was eligible, she repeatedly encountered technical difficulties when asked for Proof of Citizenship, leading her to be denied coverage. After João Faustino, HRHCare’s Coordinator of Member Services, took the time to add the numbers off of her Naturalization Certificate, the problem was solved and she gained coverage. After shaking hands, Mr. Faustino said, “See, you said you were never going to get insurance and now you have it.” She replied, “And I have you to thank for that.”
